Olerai

Timber :  Flame She Oak and Budgeroo base

Height: 1,120mm

Price: Sold

This piece has been named after a farm near the Masai Mara in Kenya owned by Guy's school friend whom he recently visited in Kenya. "Olerai" is the Masai name for the Yellow Thorn Tree that grows in  most parts of East Africa.
The main source of inspiration for Guy's carving comes from the timber itself.  The way the branch has twisted, a bit like the horn of a Kudu antelope, enabled Guy to carve out a niche for the candle holder. The base is from a Budgeroo root burl.
